English actress Michelle Suzanne Dockery was born on December 15, 1981. Her most well-known role was as Lady Mary Crawley in the ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey (2010–2015), for which she received three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe nomination. In the movie Downton Abbey (2019), Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022), and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025), she played the same character again.
In 2004, Dockery debuted professionally on stage in His Dark Materials, following her graduation from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She received a nomination for the Evening Standard Award for her performance as Eliza Doolittle in a 2007 London production of Pygmalion. She was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 2009 play Burnt by the Sun.
Hanna (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), Non-Stop (2014), and The Gentlemen (2019) are among the films in which Dockery has starred. In addition, she starred in the drama miniseries Defending Jacob (2020) and Anatomy of a Scandal (2022), as well as the western miniseries Godless (2017), for which she was nominated for her fourth Emmy.
