Davis Entertainment was founded by American film producer John Andrew Davis, who was born on July 20, 1954. Denver, Colorado, is where Davis was born and reared. He is the son of media and oil tycoon Marvin Davis (1925–2004), philanthropist Barbara Davis (née Levine), and former 20th Century Fox owner. When he was younger, his father bought the local movie theater, where he sold popcorn and later saw up to 300 films year, sparking his passion in movies. After attending Amherst College and graduating from Bowdoin College, Davis earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Davis has Jewish ancestry.
