Biography:
Actor Joseph McGann was born in England on July 24, 1958. He has voiced Sir Gideon Ofnir in the computer game Elden Ring (2022) and played the lead part of Charlie Burrows, the housekeeper in the comedy series The Upper Hand (1990–1996) and Night and Day. McGann was born in Kensington, Liverpool, to a mother named Clare, a teacher, and a father named Joe, a metallurgist. Paul, Mark, and Stephen, his three younger siblings, are also performers. Clare, after their mother, is the name of his younger sister.In 1995, he played alongside Stephen and Mark in Ray and Michael Cooney’s play Tom, Dick, and Harry at the Duke of York’s Theatre.All four brothers appeared in the BBC drama The Hanging Gale that same year.
After being chosen by show creator Phil Redmond, McGann successfully tried out for the part of Barry Grant in the British soap drama Brookside in 1982. The producers had to recast the part with Paul Usher because McGann was denied an Equity card. He played Lord Glozelle in the BBC adaptation of Prince Caspian in 1989. Alongside Diana Weston and Honor Blackman, he began portraying Charlie Burrows in the enduring ITV sitcom The Upper Hand the following year. He also made appearances in the television series Dangerfield and All Creatures Great and Small around this time. He provided the voice of “Masklin” in the 1992 television adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s first book in The Nome Trilogy, Truckers.
