Finnish screenwriter and filmmaker Jalmari Helander was born on July 21, 1976 . He is well-known for the 2022 WWII action movie Sisu, the 2010 film Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, and the 2014 action-adventure Big Game, which starred Samuel L. Jackson. Helander directed a number of award-winning television advertisements and short films before focussing on feature pictures. It was revealed in 2025 that Helander would helm John Rambo, the next Rambo franchise prequel following First Blood (1982). Helander is the maternal uncle of Jorma’s son Onni and the brother-in-law of actor Jorma Tommila, both of whom have appeared in his films.
