English actor, director, producer, and musician Dominic Gerard Francis Eagleton West was born on October 15, 1969. His most well-known roles are those of Jimmy McNulty in HBO’s The Wire (2002–08), Noah Solloway in Showtime’s The Affair (2014–19), for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama, Fred, the nephew of Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (1999), and Charles, Prince of Wales, in The Crown (2022–23), for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and another Golden Globe.
Before making appearances in the television films A Christmas Carol, 28 Days with Sandra Bullock (2000), and Nicholas Nickleby (2001), West first appeared on television in the 1998 BBC medical drama Out of Hours. His breakthrough performance was as Detective Jimmy McNulty in the television series The Wire. After that, he starred in the BBC series The Hour (2011–2012), for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for his role as Richard Burton in BBC Four’s Burton & Taylor (2013) and won one for his depiction of serial killer Fred West in the ITV drama Appropriate Adult (2011). In the 2018 BBC miniseries Les Misérables, he portrayed Jean Valjean.
