Dhirendra Mulkalwar
Biography:
Dhirendra Mulkalwar, popularly known as Dhiru, is an Indian music composer and producer whose career reflects patience, creativity and a lasting commitment to music. Originally from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, he began learning music at the age of 12 under music teacher Rajiv Pillay. His early interest led him to All India Radio, followed by formal training in audio engineering and professional work in radio, advertising and music production.
Before becoming a film music director, Mulkalwar spent years working behind the scenes. He contributed to major productions such as Uri: The Surgical Strike, Article 15 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, while also composing for short films, animation and digital entertainment. His work across these different formats helped him develop a musical style that combines Indian folk influences, electronic sounds and cinematic orchestration.
Hanuman Ansh marked a particularly meaningful milestone because it gave him his first solo feature-film music-director opportunity after years in the industry. He composed the film’s background score and created the devotional song “Siyavar Ramchandra Ki Jai.” The spiritual subject also connected with his personal reverence for Neem Karoli Baba.
His journey is an example of how a long period of working behind the scenes can lead to a major opportunity. Rather than limiting himself to devotional music, Mulkalwar hopes to continue exploring different genres and musical traditions, bringing fresh ideas and emotion to future projects.
