Biography:

Daniel Day-Lewis is an English actor who is considered by many to be one of the most outstanding performers of the generation. Known for intense preparations, amazing transformations, and extremely selective work in acting, Daniel was born on April 29, 1957, in London, England. He started acting in professional films as a teenager and earned initial acclaim by his performances in films such as My Beautiful Laundrette (1985), A Room with a View (1985), and The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988). The actor became recognized as a prominent dramatic actor in the films like My Left Foot (1989), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), In the Name of the Father (1993), and The Age of Innocence (1993).

Daniel Day-Lewis won the Academy Award for Best Actor three times: in the roles of My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012). The actor thus became the first and the only till now male actor to win the award three times. Also, he earned nominations in the same category for such films as In the Name of the Father and Gangs of New York (2002). Among the films that are worth mentioning here are The Boxer (1997), The Crucible (1996), Nine (2009), and Phantom Thread (2017). Immersing into the role before shooting is what the actor is famous for. Day-Lewis officially retired from acting in 2017, but he returned in 2025 with the film Anemone, which he wrote and acted together with his son Ronan Day-Lewis.
