Biography:
Cary Grant was a famous British-American actor and one of the most iconic stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. The actor was born as Archibald Leach on January 18, 1904, in Bristol, England. Initially, Cary Grant was a vaudeville performer who later moved to Hollywood at the beginning of the 1930s. In Hollywood, he gained popularity due to his sophisticated style of acting, excellent comic sense, and charm in romantic comedies and films of Alfred Hitchcock. Among Cary Grant’s films, The Awful Truth (1937), Bringing Up Baby (1938), His Girl Friday (1940), The Philadelphia Story (1940), Notorious (1946), and North by Northwest (1959) should be mentioned.
Grant was twice nominated for the Oscar as Best Actor for Penny Serenade (1941) and None but the Lonely Heart (1944). However, the actor never won the main awards of the Academy. He was one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. Besides, Cary Grant successfully combined comedy, romanticism, drama, and thrillers. Together with Alfred Hitchcock, he created such successful films as Suspicion (1941), Notorious, To Catch a Thief (1955), and North by Northwest. In 1966, Cary Grant left the cinema industry. The Honorary Academy Award for unique skills in the art of acting on the screen was granted to the actor in 1970. Grant passed away in Davenport, Iowa on November 29, 1986.
