Atul Mongia

Biography:

Atul Mongia is an Indian film director, author, casting director, acting coach, actor, producer, and mentor residing in Mumbai. Having started his career in theatre where he studied under famous theatre professional Barry John, he switched to the Hindi film industry and became one of the best-known casting directors and acting coaches of the time. Mongia’s works include Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), Shor in the City (2011), Ragini MMS (2011), Shanghai (2012), Lootera (2013), Queen (2013), and Titli (2014). Moreover, he made a huge contribution to introducing special acting workshops for Hindi films that helped actors to develop their acting skills. Over the years, he has worked with such celebrities as Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Saif Ali Khan, and Vicky Kaushal.

Furthermore, Atul Mongia moved to writing and storytelling when he created and directed a Netflix series Mai: A Mother’s Rage (2022) starring Sakshi Tanwar. This is a six-episode crime drama about a middle-aged woman who gets obsessed with discovering the truth about her daughter’s murder, gradually becoming a part of the criminals’ world. Thus, the shift from casting and acting workshops to Mai creation reflects Mongia’s experience in developing characters’ performance and stories. Besides the film direction, he keeps working as a film actor and an acting mentor with many major Hindi films in his filmography.
