Arif Ali

Biography:

Arif Ali is an Indian filmmaker, author, and director renowned for making films in Hindi and digital entertainment. Younger brother of the celebrated filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Arif Ali began his career as a TV writer who worked on the medical show Dill Mill Gayye (2007-2010) and authored the dialogues of Ahista Ahista (2006).

He debuted as a director with the romantic drama film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014) that was also the debutant role of actor Armaan Jain. Although the film could not do much at the box office, it was appreciated for its youthfulness and contemporary approach towards relationships. Ali later moved into digital platform, directing the crime drama series She (2020-2022) produced by his brother Imtiaz Ali, and helming all episodes in the two seasons of the show.

Some other works of Ali include the short films Playing Priya (2016) and Paani Panchayat (2017) and the telefilm Love in the Time of Corona (2021). Also, he directed Jules, a segment in the prominent Indo-Australian anthology film My Melbourne (2024/2025) with Imtiaz Ali being the creative director. Arif Ali is famous for his story-telling that is emotionally charged and depicts complex human relationships and vulnerability.
