Anup Jalota, born in Nainital, is an accomplished Indian vocalist hailing from the Sham Chowrasi Gharana of Punjab. Educated at Lucknow’s Bhatkhande Music Institute, he began his musical journey as a chorus singer on All India Radio. His father, Purshottam Das Jalota, was also a renowned Bhajan singer, influencing Anup’s musical upbringing.
Backed by a range of instrumentalists, including santoor, dholak, sarod, sarangi, violin, sitar, tabla, and guitar players, Jalota gained fame for his soulful renditions of bhajans. Some of his popular tracks include “Aisi Lagi Lagan,” “Main Nahi Makhan Khayo,” “Rang De Chunariya,” “Jag Me Sundar Hai Do Naam,” and “Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini.”
He presented the program “Dharam Aur Hum” on Star Plus from 2002 to 2005. Jalota collaborated with Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj in Mumbai, releasing numerous CDs featuring the spiritual leader’s compositions.
In 2008, he recorded the title track “Golden Memorable Yaadein” for the CD “Noorani Chehra,” marking the Golden Jubilee of the Aga Khan, produced by Shaukat (Sam) Kassam.
Anup Jalota made headlines when he entered the Bigg Boss house during its twelfth season in September 2018 as a contestant, alongside Jasleen Matharu.
