Amrutha Suresh, born on 2 August 1988, is an Indian singer, composer, songwriter, and radio jockey. She gained recognition through her participation in the reality television singing competition Idea Star Singer on Asianet in 2007. Amrutha, hailing from a family of musicians, has made significant contributions to the music industry as a playback singer, composer, and band member.
Amrutha’s early life reveals her musical upbringing, influenced by her father, musician P. R. Suresh, and her Christian mother, Laila. Her sister, Abhirami Suresh, is also a singer and composer. Growing up in Edappally, Kochi, Amrutha demonstrated her musical talents from a young age. She began singing at the age of three and was inspired by artists like Celine Dion and Michael Jackson. Despite dropping out of 12th standard for Idea Star Singer, she later completed her education privately, holding degrees in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Amrutha’s musical journey took off when she participated in Idea Star Singer in 2007, leading to opportunities in the Malayalam film industry. Her debut as a playback singer was in the film Pulliman, and she gained praise for her rendition of the song “Munthirpoo” from Aagathan (2010).
In 2014, Amrutha founded the music band Amrutam Gamay with her sister Abhirami. The band quickly gained international acclaim for its diverse genres, covering Indian, western, folk, classical, and rock music. Their cover of the Israeli folk song “Hava Nagila” became popular globally among the Jewish community.
Amrutha’s contributions extend beyond playback singing and composing. She released her first single, “Anayathe,” in 2017, a tribute to motherhood and women. Additionally, she ventured into radio hosting as a celebrity radio jockey for Suno Melodies on Radio Suno 91.7.
Her involvement in the film industry continued with singles like “Aadu 2 – Success Song” (2017), “Minni Minni” for the film June (2019), and participation in DJ Savyo’s experimental album “Destiny.”
Beyond music, Amrutha is involved in modeling, having been featured in lifestyle magazines and walking the ramp at Kerala Fashion Runway. She and Abhirami also engage in vlogging through their YouTube channel, Amrutam Gamay – AG, with the series AG Vlogs, showcasing aspects of their personal lives, travel, food, music, and more.
Amrutha’s personal life includes a past marriage to Bala, whom she met on the sets of the film Venalmaram. They got married in 2010 and have a daughter named Avanthika. However, they separated in 2015 and legally divorced in December 2019. Amrutha was in a relationship with music director Gopi Sundar, but it reportedly ended when Gopi started a new relationship with Mayoni (aka Priya Nair).
