Indian actress Aarathi was born in 1954 and spent much of her acting career in Kannada films in the 1970s and 1980s. She is the four-time winner of the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress as well as the Filmfare Awards South. She took a break from directing films in the 1980s, but in 2005 she returned with Mithayi Mane, a critically acclaimed picture that also took home the Karnataka State picture Award for Best Children’s Picture. She became the second actress after B. Jayamma to receive a nomination when she was proposed as a member of the Legislative Council of the Vidhana parishad.
Following a brief appearance in Gejje Pooje (1969), Aarathi went on to become a prominent actress in more than 120 films, such as Hombisilu, Edakallu Guddada Mele, Naagarahaavu, Bili Hendthi, Dharmasere, Paduvaaralli Pandavaru, Ranganayaki, and Shubhamangala. Twelve films were produced by her and director Puttanna Kanagal. She directed the television series Namma Nammalli in 1986.
