Indian screenwriter, dramatist, filmmaker, and producer Ambazhathil Karunakaran Lohithadas (10 May 1955 – 28 June 2009) was involved in the Malayalam cinema business. Over the course of a two-decade career, his films have received fourteen Kerala Film Critics Awards for Best Scrip, six Kerala State Film Awards, and a National Film Award.
Born on May 5, 1955, in Chalakudy, Thrissur district, Kerala, Lohithadas (also known as “Lohi”) is the son of Ambazhathuparambil Karunakaran and Lakshmi.
In 1987, Lohithadas debuted as a scriptwriter with Thaniyavarthanam. Over the course of his 24-year career, he has written the screenplays for 35 films, including Vicharana (1988), Ezhuthapurangal (1988), Kireedam (1989), Dasharatham (1989), Mrugaya (1989)
His Highness Abdullah (1990), Sasneham (1990), Bharatham (1991), Amaram (1991), Aadhaaram (1992), Kamaladalam (1992), Vatsalyam (1993), Venkalam (1993), Padheyam (1993), Chenkol (1993), Chakoram (1994), Thooval Kottaram (1996), Sallapam (1996), and Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal (1999).
Later on, he turned to directing, and his first feature film was Bhoothakkannadi (1997). Later on, he directed and penned the screenplays for Kasthooriman (2003), Joker (2000), Kanmadam (1998), and Karunyam (1997).[5] His heart attack on June 28, 2009, claimed his life.
