Lady Superstar of Telugu Cinema, Anushka Shetty, while not being the first to essay such a role, brought to light the plight of a prostitute in the society, thanks to her portrayal of Saroja in director Krish’s Vedam. The film marked the first that any star heroine ever essayed such a role in mainstream cinema, thus changing the way that kind of roles are looked at.
Ever since Anushka’s portrayal, there have been many other such roles, but none managed to make such an impact. It is now being said that director Krish is about to bring such another character to life, with Anasuya Bharadwaj, in the form of a web series. Anasuya Bharadwaj will reportedly play a prostitute named Madhuravani in the adaptation of Telugu novelist Gurajada Appa Rao’s Kanyasulakam, to be directed by Krish. Kanyasulakam is a play written in the 1890s by Gurajadda, and has remained one of the most popular plays till date.
On the other hand, Anasuya was last seen in Gopichand’s Pakka Commerical, in a key role, and has made quite the name for herself as an actress, with her many roles over the years.
