Tollywood is currently in the midst of a major crisis, with respect to the releasing of films in theatres. The coronavirus pandemic saw to it that the theatre business closes down, so as to protect the lives of people. However, this has in turn damaged the finances of those belonging to the exhibition industry. Just when things seemed to be going back to normal slowly, but gradually, after the first wave of the pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic came about unannounced, and wreaked greater havoc in the country.
In the meantime, the situation of how theatres are sold in theatres have drastically changed, with the Andhra Pradesh government bringing in different reforms in the area. The government imposed restrictions on the prices of the tickets, and recently even announced that tickets should be bought online, on the terms of IRCTC, and that the revenues from films would go to the government itself.
There have been a lot of discussions on the issue, which are still going on, and a majority of the people have criticised the government for wanting to take the revenues of a film that is owned by a private party. Tollywood’s big names are expected to meet with AP CM Jagan on the 20th of this month, and they are expected to discuss and sort things out. It is now to be seen what will happen here on.
