Water issue has been a great problem all over India, especially in Southern India, as the north-eastern Monsoon has been showering more than required in some places of the nation causing floods while at other places it has been scarce.Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have received very less rainfall compared to usual while Tamil Nadu usually depends on North West monsoon during the season of October and November.
The farmers in the region do plan their crops from August-September itself with the usage of Cauvery water. Cauvery river originates in Karnataka and meet the sea, Bay of Bengal in Tamil Nadu. This resulted in unsolvable long time problems between the states when it comes to water sharing.River Cauvery, flows through the high lands in Karnataka while it fertilises most of it’s basin in Tamil Nadu. This basic geographical difference causes a lot of disruptances in the lives of farmers in the Mandya district in Karnataka. Also the water is crucial for drinking water purposes of Bengaluru, Mysuru regions.
Whenever there is inadequate rainfall, Karnataka stores the water for the drinking water purposes and rightfully, refuses to share with Tamil Nadu. But Tamil Nadu is demanding how much ever water is available to be shared as per agreement in front of the tribunal and as per the directive of Supreme Court for the agriculture purposes of their farmers. This became a big power struggle and also emotional matter between the politicians and common people of both states.
People in Bengaluru have turned to violent protests and have hurt few people from Tamil Nadu and also Government issued orders not to travel in TN registered vehicles, so you can understand how bad the situation is.In reciprocation some of the Tamil radical forces are planning to attack on Kannada people in Chennai as per the intelligence reports. Since, South Indian Superstar Rajnikanth is of Kannada decent he might be targeted too by these forces to gain more publicity. So the Chennai police have increased the security outside Rajni’s house as a precaution. It is sad to see political games being played with essentials like Water!
