Shankar Shanmuga has been the biggest commercial director of South India with undeniable big hits and commercial classics like Gentleman, Premikudu, Bharateeyudu, Oke Okkadu, Aparichitudu, Jeans and Sivaji. His films always tried to convey a social message through big budget extravaganzas and visually grand spectacle. His hold on youth is undeniably great and the above mentioned films are still popular among the 90’s and 2010’s audience without any difference. People don’t mind being told by him about the government and their own duty towards country. He is rated as one of the best technicians in the country and followed ardently by many. His style of making has inspired even the greats of cinema to try such story elements and blend of social relevance in their movies.
After Shivaji, he took a conscious decision to bring his big budget extravaganzas to life and Robot/Enthiran was the first of those. VFX friendly movie was able to balance Rajni image and story nicely. The unrequited love story of a machine forcing it to turn against society became a true eventful story that many liked and even though there are problems with some of the huge action sequences by them being too artificial, the movie is still lover by children and elders for its message. The movie has become one of the biggest hits of South India and recently, the team came together to give it a sequel. The sequel 2.0 is much bigger and better in terms of budget and production values.
The story has not been even hinted like every Shankar movie. But with Akshay Kumar added to the story as a Crow Man and an antogonist, the movie has found itself as an hot property through out the country. Amy Jackson and Sudanshu Pandey will be seen in other roles. AR Rahman is scoring for the movie and the final schedule will start from January 30th wrapping the film by the end of March in Chennai. Rajni will be participating in the shoot along with Amy Jackson it seems. The film is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi. It will be dubbed into Telugu and Malayalam by the time of release. The teaser is set for April 14th release and movie for Diwali.
