Priyanka Chopra moved to the United States when she was 12 years old, and in a recent interview with Dax Shepherd, the actress revealed that she felt the need to change her accent “every week” in order to fit in. Priyanka stated that she thought she needed to “dramatically” change her accent because her peers at school would not understand what she was saying.
“I tried a different accent every week to try to fit in,” she explained, adding that this didn’t work for her because she “left America” before finishing high school.
Priyanka, who is married to American musician Nick Jonas, claims that when Nick travels to India, his accent changes to accommodate those around him. “For example, my husband is American. His accent changes when he visits India. “He has a little bit more of an Indian English accent in English because he is trying to make it more convenient for everyone who hears it that way,” she explained. Priyanka Chopra previously stated that she moved to the United States for school but encountered racism and bullying and eventually returned to India to finish her education. “Some girls called me ‘browny’ and pointed the finger at me because I was Indian,” she stated.
