Percentage System Meeting Postponed To Monday
The first meeting of a 21-member committee on the Percentage System was held on Friday evening at the Film Chamber. However, Producers and Exhibitors could not reach a common decision as both sides had different views on revenue loss.
For Pan-India films, Exhibitors estimate the loss at around Rs. 5–6 crore, while Producers and Distributors feel it could go up to Rs. 15–20 crore. Due to this difference, no final conclusion was reached, and another meeting is scheduled for Monday.
Once the final figures are clear, they will decide the revenue sharing model and theater grading system.
Theater grading will depend on facilities, but some low-facility theaters may still attract good audiences, making the criteria complex. Post-COVID theater data will also be reviewed for analysis.
Meanwhile, instead of listing films, producers may request a cutoff date for exemption. There is concern that distributors may reduce buying films, forcing producers to opt for self-release.
