Ajith Kumar, Trisha, and Arjun Sarja‘s upcoming film Vidamuyarchi is directed by Magizh Thirumeni, who has made a name for himself with films like Thadam and Kalaga Thalaivan. The film has been dubbed into Telugu under the title Pattudala. Let’s see to what extent this film with minimal promotions, has impressed the audience.

Pattudala Review

Story: After 12 years of marriage, Kayal (Trisha) decides to separate from Arjun (Ajith) and move back in with her parents. Before parting ways, they embark on one last trip to Tbilisi. During the nine-hour journey, they enter an area with poor mobile network coverage. Unexpected twists occur in Arjun’s life when he crosses paths with Rakshit (Arjun Sarja) and Deepika (Regina Cassandra). Who are Rakshit and Deepika? Why did they come into Arjun’s life? What drama unfolds between these four? How does Arjun get affected by these encounters? The answers to these questions form the crux of Perseverance.

Performances: Ajith Kumar delivers a refreshingly realistic performance. His fight sequences are also natural and well-executed, avoiding unnecessary violence or exaggerated heroic elevations. However, inconsistencies in Ajith’s appearance due to significant changes in his physique result in a lack of continuity, which may cause slight confusion. Trisha looks stunning as always, though her role in the film lacks depth. Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra try to bring life to their psychotic villainous characters.

Technical Aspects: Anirudh is usually a strong asset to any film, but in the case of Perseverance, his music falls short. Neither the background score nor the songs are impressive. The Telugu dubbing, especially the lyrics and sound mixing, is subpar and becomes a major drawback for the film. Om Prakash’s cinematography is a strong point. The natural locations in Azerbaijan are beautifully captured. The action sequences, especially the Hummer car fight scene, feel authentic and add some thrills.

Analysis: Director Magizh Thirumeni attempts to present heroism freshly while avoiding excessive violence, which is commendable. His direction is technically sound, but the poor character development hinders emotional depth. Ajith and Trisha’s marital conflict is not well established, making their separation seem unconvincing.

As a result, the audience struggles to connect with their journey. While the action-packed second half has some gripping moments, the overall narrative fails to sustain engagement. The first 20 minutes feel slow, and with a total runtime of 154 minutes, the lag in the second half makes it feel even longer, almost like a 180-minute film.

Pattudala fails to entertain due to multiple factors: poor execution in the Telugu dubbed version, lack of promotional efforts, and weak character development. Given these drawbacks, Perseverance is unlikely to make a significant impact in the Telugu states.

Verdict: Overall, Pattudala is the only style and nothing else. A boring storyline, outdated scenes, and the lack of thrill kill the film. The only solace of the film is Ajith and Trisha but they too cannot save things for the makers.

Bottom Line: Only Style and no thrill

Rating: 2/5
