A.R. Murugadoss recently opened up about the failure of his Hindi film Sikandar with Salman Khan. After directing Darbar with Rajinikanth he moved on to Sikandar which was released across India but did not get the expected response from fans or critics.
Speaking for the first time about the film’s failure Murugadoss said that making movies in one’s mother tongue brings a deeper connection and understanding of culture, behavior and audience expectations.
He explained that this connection gets lost in other languages. Though he found success in Hindi with Ghajini and Holiday, his later films like Akira, Spyder and now Sikandar did not meet expectations.
He said that when working in Hindi it’s hard to express emotions properly due to language barriers and multiple other things.
He believes his best work comes through in Tamil, where he fully understands the language and audience. That’s where he feels his true potential is seen.
