The first-day collections of the film “Leo” have taken the industry by storm, surpassing all expectations and setting new records in various territories. Despite receiving mixed reviews and neutral word of mouth, the movie’s box office performance remained unaffected.
In the Telugu states, the film achieved an astonishing opening with a gross of Rs 15 crore. In Karnataka, it set an all time record for Kollywood movie, grossing over Rs 14 crore. Even in Vijay’s stronghold of Kerala, “Leo” did not disappoint, breaking records with an opening of Rs 12 crore, marking the first double-digit opening in the state.
Tamil Nadu also contributed significantly, with an all-time record opening gross of around 37 crore, surpassing even Vijay’s previous film, “Beast.” The film also made a mark in Hindi markets, grossing 4 crore on its opening day.
When consider the all-India gross, it reached an impressive 82 crore, and the overseas box office earnings were a staggering $8 million, setting an all-time record for Kollywood. In total, the film’s opening collections soared to over 150 crore, surpassing the previous Kollywood record by a margin of over 50 crore.
Vijay has broken all records for Kollywood, and “Leo” secured the 4th biggest opening for Indian cinema overall. Despite mixed reviews and word of mouth, the film’s strong trend on the opening day indicates that it’s likely to continue its successful run, with excellent advance booking for the upcoming weekend.
