Kamal Haasan, who is busy with his upcoming gangster thriller Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam has landed in controversy over a recent comment.
He said the Kannada language originated from Tamil which upset many people in Karnataka. In Bengaluru, a man protested by burning Kamal’s photo near Pavitra Paradise Circle, causing a traffic jam. The police arrested him for creating public disturbance.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce reacted strongly. They announced they won’t allow Thug Life to release in Karnataka unless Kamal apologizes.
The KFCC president said they stand with Kannada activists and warned of major protests if the actor doesn’t take back his words.
Kamal Haasan later addressed the issue in a press conference. He said he believes in democracy, law, and justice. He added that his love for Karnataka is real and he would only apologize if he genuinely felt he was wrong.
