While many producers are unable to comprehend how to cope up with tough situations post Lockdown, some big producers who almost run the industry are trying to come up with solutions that can benefit everyone. For now, there are discussions going on between different producers who are into distribution and exhibition business as well in TFI about the possibility of OTT premieres of films that are ready for release.
Dil Raju opined that it is hard to recover money from just OTT release or satellite rights and audio rights deals. They need theatres to open and exhibition industry to function with new guidelines and restrictions at some level. He said that he will think about only digital release of his films, if lockdown situation is extended for two or three months. As that situation will force them to go for something is better than nothing approach.
Even Allu Aravind said that he doesn’t see only OTT release helping small producers to recover costs and big producers need wide release in theaters to make their amounts back. But it is to be noted that the producers are not against OTT only releases but they need assurances on recovery factor as well.
