Tamada Media, known for its unique and trend-setting content, is back with another interesting short film titled Colony Circus. Released as part of ETV Win’s Katha Sudha series, the film started streaming from May 24. Let’s see how well it entertains the audience.
Colony Circus Story: Colony Circus is a period drama set in 1996 in a government employees’ colony in Kakinada. The story follows Suryanarayana, a strict maths teacher who values respect deeply. After feeling insulted while watching TV at a neighbour’s house, he decides to buy a colour television using all the family’s savings.
However, problems begin when his wife wants to watch serials, his son prefers cricket, and Suryanarayana wants to watch the news. The conflict over the TV creates funny and emotional situations inside the family. To solve the issue, Suryanarayana’s father suggests holding an election in the colony to decide TV rights.
Performances: Venkatesh Maha suited the maths teacher role perfectly, while Udwit Harsha delivered a natural performance as Annapurna. Child artist Aarav impressed the most with his acting. Kireeti and Revathi Nath also performed well, and the rest of the cast did justice to their roles.
Technical Aspects: Director Shashank Posimsetty successfully tells a big story in a short runtime without losing engagement. The narration remains interesting from the first scene till the end, while also delivering a strong message about ego and relationships. The emotional climax leaves a good impact. Except for a small logical mistake involving a song from the 2000 film Devullu in a story set in 1996, the film works well throughout.
Technically, JV Sudhanshu’s background score and Srivatsa Gorla’s cinematography add quality, while editor Srujan Sharma Kapila keeps the film crisp. The producers also recreated the 1996 colony atmosphere effectively.
Analysis: Colony Circus takes viewers back to the beautiful days of 1996, away from today’s phone-driven world. The film reminds us about human bonding, emotions, and overcoming egos. Streaming on ETV Win, it is a perfect mini movie to enjoy with family this weekend.
Verdict: A simple, engaging and nostalgic short film with a strong message about ego and relationships, backed by solid performances and neat technical work.
Bottom Line: Engaging drama with strong message.
Rating: 3/5
