He began his career as a playback singer in the mid-nineties, gaining prominence in Hindi cinema. He served in several ministerial roles, including Minister of State for the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, and Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
