A few months back, when the lockdown was announced and theaters were closed, OTT platforms came in touch with many filmmakers offering them huge prices to release their movies digitally. However, filmmakers then haven’t shown much interest in their offer. Though the prices are lucrative filmmakers thought of going through the conventional route which in other words means to have theatrical release first.
Probably at that time, filmmakers haven’t thought they have to wait more than six months for theatrical release. With the current scenario, it might take more than three months from now for the theaters to be reopened. Even after that situation is skeptical about audiences’ reception about going to theaters.
Considering all these factors, Tollywood filmmakers are reconsidering the option of releasing their movies through OTT platforms. Films like Nani’s V, Pradeep’s 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela, Raj Tarun’s Orey Bujjiga, Ram’s Red, Rana’s Aranya, Vaishnav Tej’s Uppena, Anushka’s Nishabdam are waiting for releases. How many of these will turn to OTT releases? Well, we have to wait and see.
