Digital piracy is a major reason for revenue loss in the film industry. Even though police have arrested several people who run illegal websites that leak new movies within hours of their theatrical release piracy continues to exist.
Many such websites are still active making Tollywood one of the worst-affected film industries in the country.
Following recent breakthroughs against piracy gangs, the TG police and the Telugu film industry have decided to strengthen their efforts. Their focus is now on quick action to trace, block and remove pirated links before they spread widely.
In a major step the TG Cyber Security Bureau and the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday. The agreement allows real-time monitoring, fast takedown of pirated content and coordinated legal action. TGCSB director Shikha Goel and TFCC president Suresh Babu signed the MoU in the presence of Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy.
Under this partnership both teams will share intelligence, use advanced technology and work closely with ISPs, OTT platforms, social media companies and app stores to fight online piracy more effectively.
