The Telugu Film Chamber recently met with producers and distributors to discuss the ongoing dispute over theatre rents.
Some exhibitors are asking for a percentage-based revenue model instead of fixed rents. They warned that theatres will be shut from June 1st if the issue isn’t resolved.
Most producers and distributors are not in favour of a shutdown. They pointed out that the summer season was already a loss due to lack of major releases, piracy, and IPL 2025 matches. The situation has made it harder for theatre owners to recover costs.
During the meeting, producers and distributors suggested resolving the issue through discussions rather than a strike. More meetings are planned in the coming days, and all sides are hoping for a peaceful solution.
While some producers support the exhibitor’s demand, most oppose the percentage system. The industry is expecting better clarity soon as talks continue.
