Remakes were once a very safe formula for filmmakers throughout the country because filmmakers could put a safe bet on a product that was already tried and tested, and even make it better and get a profit out of it. However, this culture is now slowly dying out, thanks to OTT platforms.
Films of every language are now available on one OTT platform or another, and whether they come in dubbed versions or not, one can surely watch them with subtitles, thus giving the audience a taste of the original. Then come the remakes, which are essentially discarded by the audience, because they have already watched the original.
The best example of this is Godfather, which was released recently. While the film received a good response, the audience pretty much didn’t care about the film because it was a remake, the original version of which was already watched by the audience. The same is the case with pretty much every other remake that has come recently.
