Producers from Tamil Film Industry decided to move to court against the claims of Ilaiyaraja that he and singers should get royalty whenever they use his songs for commercial purposes. He has been fighting for this issue from past 5 years.
Recently, his company even sent legal notices to SP Balasubramanyam, who got upset and decided to not sing the composer songs on stage. Recently, he retracted from that decision and asked all his organisers to pay up in front all the royalty that the composer is demanding.
Now, Producers have decided to oppose the claim of Intellectual property rights by composer and singers. They are saying that tomorrow writers, actors and everyone part of a film will go out and ask for similar rights while Producer is the person who should own all the rights.
They said that they are the people who hired them to create and they even paid to all of them handsome amounts. So, if Raja gets royalty then they should get 50pc from each rupee or else the concept of Intellectual property shouldn’t exist, they claim. They moved this argument to court and filed a case against Ilaiyaraja. We have to wait for Court reaction now
