R Narayana Murthy recently addressed the media about the ongoing theatre strike and issues in the Telugu film industry. He clarified that the strike is not related to the release of Hari Hara Veera Mallu.
He felt that it would have been more respectful if Pawan Kalyan had spoken to theatre exhibitors about the strike without linking it to his film’s release.
Narayana stressed that single-screen theatres are struggling to survive and strongly supported the implementation of a percentage-based system instead of fixed rental fees.
He recalled past efforts to bring this system by protesting before the Film Chamber, but no solution was given. He also said that connecting the strike discussions with a film release sends the wrong message.
Narayana urged industry members to meet Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu for help. He warned that big corporate companies are dominating the exhibition sector and also pointed out that rising ticket prices are another growing concern.
