The film “Maidaan” tells the inspiring story of football coach SA Rahim, who led the Indian team to the Olympics. directed by talented maker Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta, Boney Kapoor and big production house Zee Studios.
Despite receiving positive reviews, the Maidaan movie’s box office performance has been disappointing. Released on Eid, the extended weekend didn’t boost collections as expected, with only ₹22+ crores nett from the Indian Box Office.
While the film is doing well in major cities (A-centres), smaller towns (B&C centres) are showing poor numbers. Considering the positive buzz, the trade expected a ₹100 crores weekend, but that didn’t happen. Surprisingly, the underperformance of “Bade Miyaan Chote Miyaan” hasn’t given “Maidaan” the expected advantage.
With no major releases coming up, “Maidaan” needs to pick up steam this week. However, Monday’s advance bookings indicate a slow start. It’s a puzzle why “Maidaan” isn’t drawing in more audiences, despite its inspiring story and positive reviews.
