Telugu cinema has grown rapidly over the last decade reaching audiences beyond regional borders. Bollywood too has been eager to collaborate with Tollywood actors and directors, though the results have been uneven.
Recently, War 2 released under the YRF Spy Universe but received an average response. Telugu fans, in particular, were unhappy with Jr. NTR’s Hindi debut.
Similar disappointments were seen earlier with Ram Charan’s Zanjeer and Prabhas Adipurush, which failed despite huge hype.
Against this backdrop, Mahesh Babu’s 2022 comments have resurfaced online. At Major’s trailer launch, he said Bollywood had offered him films but he felt no urge to cross over, adding, “They can’t afford me”.
Mahesh stressed that his focus is on Telugu cinema reaching all of India. Many fans now feel his view is justified, seeing recent Bollywood failures.
