Padma awards have been announced the other night on the occasion of Republic Day, 2021. Legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam who has left us in deep shock the previous year has been honored with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor.
SP Balasubramaniam has died in 2020 due to the COVID-19 and lung-related ailments. He was treated for months but in vain. SP Balu has sung over 40,000 songs which is a record and he has sung in over a dozen languages. He was earlier conferred with Padma Bhushan.
KS Chitra, the legendary singer who has sung over 25,000 songs in many languages has been conferred with Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award. She was awarded the National award as best singer six times, which was a record. Carnatic singer Bombay Jayashri has been conferred with Padma Shri.
