These days, making a movie is a big thing and directors and producers had to become protective about their stories. Gone are those days when they thought anything in the name of entertainment will be accepted with lighter heart. People are taking offences to different things from the film at different levels. However small or significant they might be?! Recently, Gautamiputra Satakarni became a hot issue for the filmmakers being hyperactive in claiming it to be the real history of a Telugu King and brought in the Telugu pride on screen for the first time. But historians ripped apart the claims of the makers by saying has this been said fiction we had no problems but if you say it is history and depict fiction we can’t take that silently. Even movie getting a tax exemption in two telugu states has become big talking point with Rudrama Devi a known history based film failing to do so in Andhra Pradesh.
The main aspect of the attack has been that Gautamiputra Satakarni was not a Telugu King but Satavahana kings did belong to Telugu land and the man was Sri Satakarni who belonged to earlier generation of Satavahanas than Gautamiputra Satakarni. Few Telangana professors went on to say that since, Andhra Pradesh doesn’t have any historically great Kings and to high light Amaravati, they have created fictional history borrowing from Maharashtrians. Even few others historians shared the same sentiments in regards of accepting Satakarni as the person belonging to Andhra Pradesh or Telugu community that early days.
Krish in his reply took offence and said, ” I won’t react to people who want to bring me and my efforts down but do these people really know more than Vishwanatha Satyarayana who placed him among Telugu Kings? Can they say Parabhramma Sastry was wrong? See even Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao wanted to make a film on the King and his story! Will he do that if he was not a Telugu person? Don’t I look like a person who would talk after knowing things? I am not that lazy. When I was writing the script I referred 5 books and there were 10 different versions, so I went with what I read with during my schooling days and tried to present facts with my kind of fiction. This is some baseless attack!”
