As a young child, Kranthi Kumar developed a passion for movies by reading historical fiction and listening to movies on the radio. He had always wanted to be a director, but his shy personality stopped him from breaking into the field right away.
Kranthi Kumar went to Hyderabad after earning three diplomas and a PG (Theatre) from Telugu University. There, he worked on several short films and created sets for plays. His abilities were quickly acknowledged, and in 2014–15 for Rajakar, he took home the Nandi Award for Best Set Designer.
