Natural Star Nani decided to let his producer take the final decision on the release of his film, “V”. As per the inside reports, he has been avoiding Dil Raju from releasing V on OTT platforms, for a while till the deal came through.
He half-heartedly agreed say sources but he is not a person to bewail on past decisions too much. He wants to make sure that Tuck Jagadish gets a theatrical release. But his decision has ended confusion for producers who have doubts about theatrical survival chances of their films.
Some producers are worried about sustaining the negative word of mouth from audiences and even critics. When OTT platforms are so easily accessible, they fear audiences coming to theaters in such conditions with many restrictions when they know the film is not worth it or if the word spreads so. Already normal occupancies have heen reducing and hence, they are relieved that they can “V” deal to crack something suitable for their film.
In Telugu, if Nani helped take the bold step, there in Tamil, Suriya is forcing even Dhanush and Vijay to think about exploring OTT option for their Jagame Thantiram and Master. While distributors are against such moves, fans don’t like it, the actors and producers think this can avoid the scrutiny about when they will release and what they will do.
Political leaders will try to use every possible aspect to their advantage in an election situation and with 2021 Tamil Nadu elections coming up Vijay doesn’t want to give politicians ammunition to target him with. If his fans flock to theaters not caring for social distancing norms to watch Master when it releases, politicians will be keen to target him without any doubt. So, for him an OTT release might bring up a problem about convincing his fans but politically will help him to negate negativity.
On the whole, two huge announcements from Nani and Suriya have stirred up a lot of conversations internally within the Industry and externally within the fanbase(s), as well.
