The demand for horror movies never seems to wane, but it’s fair to say that the horror comedy sub-genre has somewhat fallen out of favor. Nevertheless, under the direction of Kona Venkat, “Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi” emerges as a sequel to the 2014 hit horror comedy ‘Gitanjali’. While the original starring Anjali enjoyed commercial success, it didn’t quite leave a lasting impact in terms of content. However, with the sequel helmed by Kona Venkat and his team, there’s anticipation. Let’s delve into how this latest offering has resonated with today’s audience.
Geethanjali Malli Vachindi Story: The story of ‘Geethanjali Malli Vachindi’ starts with Srinivasa Reddy becoming a successful director but then facing failure. When he can’t find work, he tricks his friend Ayan for money. Later, he learns the truth from Maya and decides to go back home with his friends. But then, he gets a chance to make another movie. What problems does he face while making the film? And how does Anjali (played by Anjali) fit into the story? That’s what the rest of the story is about.
Performances: Once again, Comedian Satya shines with his flawless comedic timing, leaving the audience in stitches with his innocent portrayal and expressive gestures. Sunil, despite limited screen time, impresses with his entertaining antics in the latter part of the movie, adding to the overall enjoyment. Anjali delivers a decent performance in her role, backed by a talented ensemble cast, including Srinivasa Reddy, Satyam Rajesh, and Shakalaka Shankar.Ravi Shankar and Priya also stand out in their roles as ghosts, further enhancing the entertainment factor.
Technical Aspects: Director Shiva Turlapati’s hard work is praiseworthy, but the neglect of the story and screenplay by senior writer Kona Venkat lessens the film’s impact. Giving more attention to these areas could have made the movie better. PravinLakkaraju’s music adds excitement at times, while Sujatha Siddhartha’s camera work could have been more interesting to keep the audience engaged. Chota K Prasad‘s editing is decent, and the production values meet the standard expectations.
Analysis: “Gitanjali is back,” but it lacks scares and laughs. It doesn’t warrant a trip to the theater, but when it’s on YouTube or an OTT platform, it’s worth a shot for the comedy in the second half.
Verdict: Overall, Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi provides laughs but lacks in delivering scares. Satya’s comedic talent stands out, with Sunil also delivering a noteworthy performance. Although Anjali performs well, the film’s predictable plot, shallow characters, and disappointing climax weaken its impact. Considering these factors, it’s recommended to explore other entertainment options.
Bottom Line: Routine Horror Comedy Drama
