Films Released in 2024 with High Expectations but Fell Short

Many movies were released in 2024, but only a few made an impact. While there were many films that generated huge expectations before release, they failed to impress the audience post-release. The following list highlights those films that did not meet the audience’s expectations, not focusing on box office success or failure but on how they performed in the theaters.

Films Released in 2024

1. Guntur Kaaram:

Promoted as an action film, “Guntur Kaaram” failed to impress the audience. Despite having a hit album and high elements, the lack of a strong storyline led to its failure, even though it had Trivikram‘s dialogue style.

OTT – Netflix

2. Saindhav:

This film failed despite Venkatesh giving his best performance. The movie had several flaws in direction and did not work commercially.

OTT – Prime Video

3. Eagle:

Ravi Teja fans were disappointed as the film relied too heavily on elevating moments, which overshadowed the plot. Despite good cinematography and music, the movie couldn’t connect with the audience due to its weak storyline.

OTT – Prime Video

4. Siddharth Roy:

“Siddharth Roy” raised great interest initially but failed to impress due to its storytelling.

OTT – Aha

5. The Family Star:

Despite Vijay Deverakonda‘s popularity, the film failed to resonate with the audience. The presentation of a middle-class man’s struggles did not connect well with viewers, and Vijay’s performance also fell short in key scenes.

OTT – Prime Video

6. Aa Okkati Adakku:

The film, starring Allari Naresh, had a promising concept and trailer, but the silly core idea led to its failure.

OTT – Prime Video

7. Gangs of Godavari:

Despite good expectations and Yuvan Shankar Raja‘s music, the movie led to a disappointing theatrical experience.

OTT – Netflix

8. Double Ismart:

A sequel to “iSmart Shankar” also failed. Ali’s comedy track was criticized, and the movie didn’t live up to the hype.

OTT – Prime Video

9. Mr. Bachchan:

The film, directed by Harish Shankar, failed due to excessive use of Hindi songs, unnecessary romantic scenes, and backlash over the director’s interviews and social media activity, which hurt its reception.

OTT – Netflix

10. Maa Nanna Superhero:

Though the teaser raised hopes, the lack of a strong storyline made it difficult for the film to connect with the audience. Sudheer Babu‘s performance could not save it from failure.

OTT – Prime Video

11. Swag:

A film attempting to discuss transgender equality, “Swag” had a good message but was bogged down by unnecessary twists making it less effective.

OTT – Prime Video

12. Matka:

Varun Tej’s effort to score a hit after a series of failures didn’t succeed as the movie failed to capture the audience due to weak direction and compressing the story elements.

OTT – Prime Video

13. Devaki Nandana Vasudeva:

Despite expectations due to Ashok Galla‘s debut and Prasanth Varma‘s involvement, the film was let down by a concept copied from Hollywood.

OTT – Disney + Hotstar

14. Mechanic Rocky:

Vishwak Sen’s second release of 2024 failed at the box office due to weak storytelling, despite good characterization and a solid concept.

OTT – Prime Video
