Eagle Story: Sahadev Varma (Ravi Teja) specializes in cultivating rare wild cotton. Nalini(Anupama Parameswaran), a journalist, discovers that Sahadev’s unique cotton is highly sought after in Europe. Intrigued, she writes an article spotlighting Sahadev’s work, unwittingly plunging herself into a perilous situation. As she delves deeper, she uncovers that Sahadev is a prime target for RAW, naxals, and terrorists. Who exactly is Sahadev? and why is everyone after his life? That forms the story.
Performances: Ravi Teja gets a makeover and he delivers an action-packed performance in the film. His dialogue delivery, body language, and action blocks are amazing in the film. Kavya Thapar has nothing much to do in the film. Navdeep gets a good role in the film and he is good. Srinivasa Avasarala as the RAW agent did his part. Madhoobala is loud as always. Ajay Ghosh, Srinivasa Reddy, and Mirchi Kiran are very good in their fun roles. Anupama Parameswaran was neat in her mature role.
Technical Aspects: From a technical standpoint, Eagle stands out as one of the finest action flicks in Tollywood in recent times. Particularly noteworthy are the captivating cinematography and thrilling action sequences. The background score by Davzand holds up well, though the songs are merely satisfactory. The creators deserve commendation for delivering the film with such stylish flair while maintaining budgetary constraints. The edit could have been a lot better in many areas. The production designs and action choreography are amazing.
Analysis: Karthik Ghattamaneni delivers a decent product with Eagle. While the initial half may not meet expectations, Ghattamaneni compensates with a compelling second half, blending both style and substance seamlessly. His portrayal of Ravi Teja in a distinctive role is noteworthy in the second half. The way he connects the dots is very good in the final portions of the film.
Eagle has a dragged first half. Though the director starts the film on a positive note without deviating into the story, too much elevation and lack of Ravi Teja’s presence bores the audience to an extent. Ravi Teja’s character is frequently accompanied by lofty dialogues throughout Eagle almost to the extent of becoming excessive. However, despite this, the storyline itself feels somewhat lacking in substance, leading to an overwhelming sensation.
But all these complaints are gone in the air as solid action blocks are highlighted superbly. The dots are connected by the end and it makes a lot of sense. The makers have done quite well and the film looks grand. If you go into the film seeking it as an action film, you will love it as it has some best action sequences in recent times. Just ignore the overhype of the setup.
Verdict: Overall, Eagle has some great action blocks that are a rarity in Telugu cinema. Ravi Teja is also superb in his mature role. The first half is slow and the emotions are slightly dull. If you ignore this aspect, you can enjoy the film without any complaints.
