The movie ‘Animal’ has been riding high on its commercial success, nearing a staggering ₹800 crores in global box office earnings. However, amidst its widespread popularity, there’s a growing criticism from a segment of intellectuals and industry insiders, including acclaimed cinematographer Siddharth Nuni.
Known for his work on movies like ‘Lucia’ and ‘U-Turn’ in Kannada, and currently involved in #Thalapathy68, Nuni recently voiced his concerns about ‘Animal’ on his Instagram page. Nuni’s critique of the film revolves around its portrayal of toxic masculinity.
He pointed out that ‘Animal’ showcases elements that could be interpreted as glorifying abusive mindsets, drawing parallels to the depiction of Nazis. He particularly highlighted Ranbir Kapoor’s character, expressing concerns about the abusive relationships, excessive violence, and the lack of meaningful roles for women, rendering them as passive figures in the storyline.
Adding to this, Nuni raised questions about the film’s immense financial success, hinting that it might reflect the societal dynamics prevalent in India. He also raised concerns about the presence of young children in the audience, considering the film’s mature themes and an A-rating, questioning the responsibility of censorship and the need to shield young minds from such content.
