Abhishek Bachchan was mentored by JP Dutta in his first movie, Refugee, but a few hours before the start of production on Paltan, the superstar quit.

The actor explained why he had to leave the movie in an interview : “I was obviously doing Paltan. For me, it was devastating because it’s JP saab. He didn’t only launch me but he has been like a mentor, family to me The actor went on to say that he was devastated to have to pass on the role. He stated, “I really wanted to be there for him, especially as he was going on this journey because he was creating a film for the first time in so long. He is someone I love very much. But it was sad for me to be unable to support him when the movie was being made.
Abhishek Bachchan’s choice to leave the movie, however, appeared calculated given how poorly the movie did at the box office. After Refugee, JP Dutta and Abhishek collaborated on LOC: Kargil for the unexperienced, and even though the movie bombed, Jr. Bachchan made a name for himself as Captain Vikram Batra.
