Vijay Devarakonda has issued a statement expressing regret if his recent comment unintentionally hurt the sentiments of Scheduled Tribes.
During the pre-release event of Suriya’s film Retro, Vijay condemned terrorism and said “We are not tribes to fight mindlessly,” referring to Pakistan sponsored terror attacks.
However some Scheduled Tribe groups in Telangana felt the remark was offensive and filed a police complaint, alleging it portrayed tribes negatively.
In his clarification, Vijay said he used the word ‘tribes’ in a general, historical sense, not referring to Scheduled Tribes (STs).
He explained that humans were once divided into tribes and clans, and his intent was not to target any community. Vijay expressed that he deeply regrets if his words caused any hurt.
He emphasized that he stands for unity and will always use his platform to uplift people. Meanwhile Vijay is gearing up for the release of his film Kingdom on May 30th, with its first song already trending.
