Vidya Balan Calls For Change In South Indian Cinema
Vidya Balan has spoken about hypermasculinity in South Indian cinema and expressed hope for better roles for women.
The actress made her Tamil debut with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. In an interview, Vidya said she did not experience any issues on the film’s sets.
However, she agreed that South Indian films often focus more on male characters. She hopes the trend changes and more women led films are made across Indian languages.
Vidya plays Kanta Kalpak in Jailer 2 and called sharing screen space with Rajinikanth a great honour.
She will next appear alongside Akshay Kumar and Raashii Khanna in Anees Bazmee’s upcoming comedy.
