Vettaiyan is one of the most awaited films in Tamil and Telugu as it has superstar Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Rana Daggubati in lead roles. The film has released today and let’s see how it is.
Story: Athiyan(Rajinikanth) is an encounter specialist who even uses unlawful terms to provide justice. One fine day, his life turns upside down when a school teacher played by Dushara Vijayan is killed brutally. Athiyan takes it upon himself to get justice for the teacher. But in order to do this, be has to go through so many hurdles. Will he get justice is the basic story.
Performances: Rajinikanth is amazing as the encounter specialist and does amazingly well in his role. The way he shows maturity and mass moments is superb. His style and swag is showcased in the action based scenes.
Amitabh Bachchan brings a lot of depth to the film and all his scenes with Rajinikanth are solid. Also, Rana Daggubati is solid in his role. Fahadh Faasil is crazy in his impact role. Ritika Singh and Manju Warrier are neat in their roles.
Technical Aspects : The production design is amazing and gives the film a rich look. Anirudh gives yet another solid score and elevated the film to another level altogether. The editing could have been better in the second half. The camera work is good and the action blocks are shot superbly. The thrills showcasing Rajinikanth are cool.
Analysis: Gnanavel has directed this film and his story is simple but the manner in which he has added a lot of layers in the film and this makes things interesting. Rajinikanth can lift any film to another level with his acting and the same happens in this film as well.
Though the scenes become dull, he makes sure that the drama that she showcases engaged the audience. Rana’s character has a few logical issues and could have been trimmed a bit.
The second half is a bit dull and more impact could have been brought in by a racy screenplay. The investigation scenes have some issues as they feel dragged.
Rajinikanth has moved far away from his prime but he is choosing roles in such a way that he gets more scope for performance and the same happens in the film. But when Rajinikanth is in full flow no one can stop him and he even takes over the film which tends to become slow and boring.
Verdict : Overall, Vettaian is a film that runs in the shoulders of Rajinikanth and he makes sure that the drama and mass elements are well balanced in this Gnanavel film and makes it a decent watch this weekend. Go for it.
Bottom Line- Rajinikanth show all the way
Rating: 3/5
