Vairamuthu recently expressed concern over filmmakers using lines from his songs as film titles without his consent.
He questioned the trend asking, “Isn’t it fashionable to use a word just by hearing it?”, a comment that sparked discussion in the industry.
Addressing claims that he refuses to edit his lyrics, Vairamuthu clarified that this is untrue. He stated he is open to changes when they are logical and fair, and shared real examples from his past work.
In the film Punnagai Mannan, he agreed to replace the word ‘Uyirthalam’ with ‘Kudaikambi Thulrithadhu’ after the composer suggested it might be misunderstood.
However in the film Manithan, he stood by a lyric referencing Darwin, saying songs should also educate. Director S.P. Muthuraman supported his decision.
Vairamuthu said that while he is open to feedback people often twist the facts and criticize him unfairly which he finds disappointing.
