Taapsee Pannu is known for playing a variety of characters, including Prakashi in Saand ki Aankh (2019) and Rani in Haseen Dilruba (2021), and is frequently referred to as an “unconventional” heroine. On the other hand, the pressure to deliver something out of the ordinary in every film can be overwhelming for the actor.
“I appreciate that people have a certain perception of me and expect me to do something unconventional and different from the norm. But, looking at my work solely through that lens and anticipating something drastically different in every frame of every movie can be harsh, unfair and brutal. While I can experiment with my character, the story and the world around it, there are certain limitations as it’s the same human being performing all of those roles. I do feel the pressure sometimes,” Tapsee justifies.
The actor believes that if people watch her work without preconceived notions or judgements, they will see variety and uniqueness in each film she makes. “I became an actor because I enjoy the craft and the process, not for the fame and glory,” she explains.
Regarding the leaked Dunki set photos, the actor says, “The photos were taken on the Westminster Bridge in London during a Sunday morning shoot.” When people come to see ‘The Shah Rukh Khan,’ it’s impossible to stop them. Seeing him on that bridge on Sunday morning was the best for many of us. While we try to keep people away from particular looks and moments on screen, it’s unavoidable when you have such a big star in front of you.” Tapsee, on the other hand, says she was overjoyed when she heard the script for Wo Ladki Hai Kahan. “The comedy style is very me.” The things I say in the film are similar to my natural sense of humour. I’ve always liked the kind of comedy that isn’t always in your face…that is sarcastic and drier. “We don’t see that in Hindi cinema very often,” she says. Tapsee is excited about playing Rani in the sequel of Haseen Dillruba, for which she is currently shooting in Agra.
