Just a day before its grand release, the Telangana High Court delivered a major shock to Pawan Kalyan’s OG, even after ticket sales had begun. The court suspended the government’s order that allowed higher ticket prices and permissions for special shows starting tonight.
Justice NV Shravan Kumar passed the order following a petition by Mahesh Yadav, who argued that only the Hyderabad city commissioner and district collectors have the authority to hike ticket prices or approve extra shows, not the government. The next hearing is scheduled for October 9th.
This ruling surprised the team, as lakhs of tickets had already been sold at the higher prices. It is not yet clear if refunds will be issued.
Reports suggest the government may now direct district collectors to act, and distributors could file a motion petition to challenge the HC order.
Previously, Telangana allowed ticket prices up to Rs. 800 for special shows and raised multiplex and single-screen fares. Despite the legal issue, OG’s advance worldwide sales are nearing Rs. 100 crores, ensuring a huge opening.
